Description

A single ‘stunning’ Bavarian Oberforestmeister Generalmajor’s shoulder board.
I was told it’s a Generalmajor rank in the Bavarian forestry service during the Imperial era. It was referred to as a Oberstforstmeister of the Bavarian State Forestry service.
The German Forestry protected the Kings Land and managed the forests guarding against poaching and while on duty were armed. By American standards, I suppose, you would equate their forestry forces as militarized forest rangers and these positions existed in both Imperial environments (various German States within the Empire) and throughout the Third Reich period where they had armed forestry personnel within the various branches
of their military.
Frankly you don’t see much Forestry insignia (of this period) ~ they were rare. Forestry
items, I’m told are much more appreciated in Europe than here in the states but, alas, I'm in the states. That said this Generalmajor’s board has a very fine dark green velvet underlay a Crown motif over the gold braid with a single elongated tunic attachment gold button/hook. The clip button is so that the board could be moved from one garment to another and for when the garment was washed. The all gold bullion braiding consists of interwoven ‘Russia braid’ style gold cords almost like the general field marshal boards of WW2. The board is almost six inches long by two inches wide so, by its size it would be worn on an overcoat or ‘greatcoat’ as the Germans referred to them.
