    Description

    MINT NEVER HINGED CAPE TOWN SOUTH AFRICA NATIONAL PHILATELIC EXHIBITION DISA 1979 SOUVENIR SHEET -  You are bidding on one mint never hinged souvenir sheet in sound condition. Souvenir Sheet depicts two Union essays.
    The DISA name of the exhibition was derived from the name of the classic first issue of Israel stamps, the Doar Ivri series (Doar Ivri Southern Africa), at the same time spelling the name of the beautiful flower and emblem of the Western Cape.
    At the opening of the Exhibition between 5,000 and 9,000 pigeons were released. It was held 30 March - 7 April. About 300 exhibitors from 14 countries attended.
    Some of the pigeons released at the official opening carried pigeongrams that were later sent and marked “Pigeon Post” to collectors who had ordered in advance.
    The Post Office also issued a special 15c stamp on 30 March 1979 (Scott #516) to commemorate 50 years of printing stamps by the Government Printers. A sheet of fifty of these stamps is listed separately.
