Description

This enlisted man's belt & brass ( M1895 ) buckle dates from Pre-War (Buckle) to 1896 & 1909 (Belt) see stamping on the reverse. Germany switched to non-reflective accessories mid-war, The Belt is Brown and was dyed black to conform with mid-war regulations. The belt shows evidence of field repairs and measures a bit over 38" and has cuts to accommodate the buckle down to 34.5" as food was scarce as the war ground to a close. The Belts is also stamped with a partially legible lettering along with the dates which is pictured. Belt Buckles from this period commonly have some type of denting, this example is slightly dented & It is uncommon to find a Pre-WW 1 Belt & Buckle in this good shape. The patina on the brass is great. The German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurtemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities. They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms. Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" or "GOD'S WITH US".
