Description

This Prussian unit marked enlisted man's belt & brass ( M1895) buckle & belt dates from ( stamped 1899) Germany switched to non-reflective accessories mid-war, this Belt is Brown and was dyed black to conform with mid-war regulations. The belt shows no evidence of field repairs and measures a bit over 39" and is stamped 100. Belt Buckles from this period commonly have some type of denting, this example is NOT DENTED. It is uncommon to find a Pre-WW 1 Brown Belt & Buckle in this good shape. The patina on the brass is great & the belt is supple considering it is 118 years old. There is stamping on the leather tab on the buckle which I could not make out using a magnifying glass. The German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurtemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities. They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms. Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" or "GOD'S WITH US".
