    Description

Imperial German Early Reign, Navy, Marine Infantry or Colonial Troop EM Brass Buckle and Belt from when Germany was United as a Country in 1871. This is the only Naval Item I’ve seen in over 40 years of collecting Militaria from when the Kingdoms, Grand Duchy’s, Duchy’s and Principalities combined to form Germany after the Franco-Prussian War. This Very Rare item came from an extremely small Navy that was organized primarily for coastal defense. Prussia then relied on other countries for naval assistance, primarily Austria and Denmark. The 1866 war with Denmark brought to light that they needed a larger Naval presence as Austria-Hungary Navy was primarily in the Mediterranean. The belt is proper for the buckle, is very thick and measures 32”. The buckle appears to have been polished at some point in time and based on the aging on both sides I’d guess over a century ago.
I have a Marine Infantry Belt and Buckle listed separately from the Great War that you can view to see the difference in the Buckles.
