Description

This enlisted man's belt & buckle dates from the middle of the War (1916). Germany switched to non-reflective accessories mid-war, The Belt is Brown and was dyed black to conform with mid-war regulations. Most of the black dye has worn off of the outside of the belt ( see photos). The belt is field repaired with the soldiers name shown on the inside. The belt measures a bit over 40” and would work for a waist of 37”. Belt Buckles from this period commonly have some type of denting, this example is NOT DENTED but shows a fair amount of rust and paint loss. The German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurttemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities. They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms. Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" or "GOD'S WITH US".
