Description

This Very Interesting Enlisted Man’s dates from the beginning of the change to non-reflective Buckles & Buckle hooks. The maker mark ( Friedr.Shrader )date ( 1915 ) Hannover. Germany switched to non-reflective accessories for obvious reasons in 1915. The Belt is Brown and shows no evidence of having been dyed black to conform with mid-war regulations.  The belt shows no evidence of field repairs and measures a bit over 37” and for a waist no greater than 35”. It is marked both 96 & 100 as well as some lettering over the 1915 date that I cannot make out. Belt Buckles from this period commonly have some type of denting, this example is NOT DENTED & has most of it’s paint and a bit of rust ( pictured ).  Hanover was a Kingdom in Germany until 1866 when it backed the losing side in the War between Austria & Prussia and was ab
s
orbed into the Kingdom of Prussia. Monarchs from Hanover were also Kings of Great Britain from 1714-1901. It is uncommon to find a Pre-WW 1 Brown Belt & Buckle in this super condition.  The German Empire was made up of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Saxony and Wurttemberg along with several Grand Duchies, Duchies and Principalities.  They all contributed to the German war effort and the larger ones had some distinctive uniforms.  Prussia was the largest Kingdom and this buckle carries the Prussian Crown with the motto "GOTT MIT UNS" or "GOD'S WITH US".
