Description

You do not run across Bavarian uniform items frequently from the period prior to the German Empire being proclaimed at the end of the Franco-Prussian War. The brown belt that the surface was dyed black to conform with mid-WW1 regulations. The leather is complete and in remarkable shape for an item no less than 150 years old. If this belt could speak it would have an incredible story to tell. The belt measures over 39” long and is adjustable below 36” that adjusted between 34-29”. The buckle is NOT DENTED and is in remarkable condition for an item this old. The motto In Treue Fest translates to IN LOYALTY.
I’ve been informed by another eBayer that this is an 1886 Buckle putting this after the Franco-Prussian War. My research indicates this item is a ( M1847 ) Buckle which is properly listed.
The German 8th Army on the Eastern Front had most of the old production Buckles for some unknown reason & were in use throughout the Great War. Once Russia settled with the Central Powers in 1917 many of the German units in the East were transferred to the Western Front for the balance of the war. This Belt & Buckle could have started it’s service prior to the Franco-Prussian War and has lot’s of military history.
The German Empire was composed of four Kingdoms, Prussia, Bavaria, Wurttemberg & Saxony in that order. This belt is a pre-Franco-Prussian War example from the Kingdom of Bavaria. Multiple purchases can be combined for postage savings.
