    Description

In 1987 The Honda Hurricane swept onto the scene and revolutionized the motorcycle industry. It was first fully enclosed body sport-bike, and set speed, acceleration and handling records that dominated the sport bike world until the other manufactures could catch up. The Hurricane 1000 broke the top speed record in 1987 set by the 1000R Ninja and reigned as King of the 80’s superbikes until the mighty ZX-11 arrived. Due to an increasing number of accidents resulting in outrageous insurance hikes, Honda decided to drop the “Hurricane” moniker leaving only the CBR designation. Later models gained some new brake tech, added weight, and smaller carbs. While they evolved into fantastic sport-touring bikes, they were never the performance bike the original was.
The Hurricane you see here is an incredible one-of-a-kind Resto-Mod that has the heart of a modern superbike with the soul of a classic original.  It is in amazing near mint condition and has never been down. Included pics of the foot-pegs, handlebar ends, and clutch/brake levers are evidence of this. This bike has been pains-takingly maintained down to every detail. The bike was built to look and feel original while having the power to run with modern superbikes. While there are 38198 miles on the original chassis, there are only 13653 miles on the modified re-built motor.
The re-build consisted of the installation of an 1100cc big bore kit with a polished and ported head, 5 angle competition valve job, titanium guides, and Webb racing cams.
The motor breaths through perfectly synchronized
stage III jetted carbs sucking air through 4 K&N individual pod filters. There are no stumbles or hesitation, just smooth seamless idle and acceleration. When all was said and done the motor put down a tire shredding 140 horsepower to the rear wheel on a dyno. The video demonstrates a cold start and idle on a brisk North Florida morning.
The true joy in a vintage superbike like this is the comfortable riding position. Unlike some of the modern bikes, you could ride this for days without feeling cramped or tired. The extended swingarm and wider wheel and tires significantly help this beast in the twists and turns making the ride both sharper and smoother. Shedding the center stand, dual exhaust header, pipes, shrouds, as well as the rear fender, signal, and license plate assembly removed a considerable amount of weight off the bike naturally helping it to be more agile and nimble than in its original form.
Modifications and maintenance done on the motorcycle include:

Being 34-35 years old, Honda Hurricanes are incredibly hard to find, ESPECIALLY IN THIS CONDITION. Most of them have been wrecked and are no longer running. While some parts are still available, fairing replacements are long gone. If you are looking for an amazing vintage superbike with modern performance and tasteful aesthetic touches that is ready to show, ride, and enjoy immediately, this is your motorcycle. There will not be another like it.
