ESTATE FRESH!
1926 C.G. Conn Ltd Silver Plated Trumpet with Case and Accessories - Jazz Musician Provenance!
I have been collecting/dealing in Antiques and Collectibles for well over 45 years. Most of the treasures that I acquire are direct from estates or houses. Over the time that I have been been doing this I have ended up setting aside items that were either of specific interest to me or that I felt were especially "unique and eclectic". This has ended up with my having a rather extensive "personal" collection. I am now at a point in my life that I have to limit this addiction and in fact actually downsize my "collection(s)!" I suggest that you consider adding me to your list of sellers that you follow as I will be offering many "decommissioned" treasures as well as the extensive new acquisitions that I continue to pursue in my semi-retirement!
Over my many years, I have offered many musical instruments. This particular trumpet has been one of my favorite which I have held onto for almost 20 years. It came out of a Waterbury, Connecticut estate and the owner was a jazz musician based in New York City!
Colonel C.G. Conn was the patriarch of musical instrument manufacturing in Elkhart, Indiana. In 1873. G.C. Conn developed a brass mouthpiece with a rubber rim. Converting an old sewing machine into a lathe, he set up a shop to build these mouthpieces. After employing a French instrument maker to repair instruments, Conn decided he could build his own instruments in 1875, building the first American made cornet that same year! By 1893 his instruments were awarded the highest honors in the World's Columbia Exposition in Chicago. Conn retired in 1915, selling the company to Carl Greenleaf who renamed the business to C.G. Conn Ltd.!
This wonderful trumpet's serial number 234,584 indicates that it was made in 1926. It has the original carrying case and an accumulation of various accessories. The family was reluctant to part with it but there was no one that played the trumpet. The case is approximately 23"x8½"x6".
The trumpet is in very good condition. The case does have wear.
